This summer, we decided to revisit a beloved childhood destination: Killykeen Forest Park. The memories of this place were deeply etched in our hearts, from the days spent fishing at the bridge to the cozy stays in the charming chalets. As kids, Killykeen was our special retreat, a place where nature’s beauty and the thrill of adventure intertwined.
However, as time passed, the business that once thrived in the park closed down, and the chalets fell into disrepair. It was disheartening to see a place filled with so many happy memories become neglected. But recently, a UK tourism company breathed new life into Killykeen. They took over the area and refurbished the old chalets, transforming them into vibrant, modern accommodations called CABÜ. The transformation was remarkable, blending the park's natural beauty with a fresh, contemporary vibe.
Our short fishing trip was a perfect mix of nostalgia and excitement. The day greeted us with a blend of rain showers and sunny spells, casting a magical glow over the park. We weren't the only ones drawn back to this cherished spot; people walked their dogs along the scenic paths, while others tried their luck at fishing. The atmosphere was lively, yet peaceful, a blend of familiar and new.
We spent a few hours fishing with spinners, feeling the same anticipation we did as kids. Later, we switched to float fishing and were delighted to catch two baby perch. It was a modest catch, but it rekindled a passion we thought had faded with time.
As the day drew to a close, we felt a growing excitement to return. The nostalgia of the day, combined with the park's rejuvenation, left us eager to come back, better prepared for a proper course fishing adventure. Killykeen Forest Park had once again become a place of joy and discovery, and we couldn't wait to create new memories in this revitalized haven.
